Yeah, so you can see the boardwalks clearly here. During the part of the year that is thawed, the primary means of transportation intra-village is via these boardwalks, be it by foot or 4X4.

One can see that the land here is wetlands (thus the need for boardwalks) and that the natives are of the active variety.

uncle bob
the first day was interesting. i am teaching ecology, biology, biology, math and health (at the same time), math and math. When I say math I don't mean one particular subset, say algebra, but the entire gamut of elementary math to geometry in a single class period. its nuts.

Brady,

That is certainly not a dumb question. There are no asphalt roads within 400 miles of where i am. During the thawed portion of the year people travel via foot or 4X4 via the boardwalks. The temp has been in the 50s the past few days, but i think its going to start falling soon.

This portion of alaska is frozen from october to the beginning of june!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know if they have spring here. i've only heard people talk about freeze-up and thawing. I guess we'll wait and see.

"Freeze up" will start happening shortly after fall, which ends in late september.
